How To Rank and Compare Your Site SERP

Posted by  Str82u
This put a few things in perspective for me after using webmaster tools and searching by hand for search results. Do this search to find out how many pages you have ranked for a certain keyword or keyphrase and how they rank.

>>> site:www.yoursite.com keyphrase or words <<< that's the "formula" to get a search engine to search just one website's pages.

Now to check ihaveyounow.com for keyword "seo" and keyphrase "seo tools" (Try with and without www) The query looks like these with the short form of the "search results:" for the comparisons.

site:ihaveyounow.com seo ( Results 1 - 59 of 59 from ihaveyounow.com for seo) - Since they are search results, you know which ones are highest in value for that term, plus, check the page rank for the first few for grins.

And so I know which the highest ranked page is and try to find it in the natural SERP without your domain. You can set the serp pages to show 100 results at a time. When logged in to a Google Account, click "Settings" then "Search Settings". I wouldn't recommend too many other changes since you want the cleanest results.

Comparison:
site:ihaveyounow.com people search (Results 1 - 37 of 37 from ihaveyounow.com for people search) - Not so good for a site with 143 pages!
the search: site:str82u.net people search (Results 1 - 100 of about 214 from str82u.net for people search) is good since the site has 254 listed in Google and as a note: adding the word "free" to people search did nothing.

If you've never used that trick before, try it without the key words to see how many pages it shows, compare to your webmaster account for that site to see if they come close.
